What a day…
After we came across some unusual activity on many of our servers, we pushed out an article to help our WordPress users protect their WP-Admin areas from attackers. As the day went on we started to see more of the unusual activity, but this time with tens of thousands of IP addresses. This is a very well organized, highly-distributed global attack on WordPress installations across pretty much every web hosting provider in the industry.
We strongly suggest that you change your password on your WordPress installation. Something that is very hard to guess. lower case, UPPER CASE, 1234′s and $*@#&$’s.
The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has received reports of an online scam, wherein “renewdomain.ca” is sending out fake email renewal notices to .CA Registrants. “Renewdomain.ca” is not a CIRA Certified Registrar and is fraudulently posing as the Registrant’s Registrar in an attempt to obtain payment from the Registrant. The email identifies the recipient’s domain name and that it is about to expire. The recipient is then directed to renew the domain by clicking on a link that leads to a “renewdomain.ca” PayPal payment page.
CIRA has worked with the offending website’s Registrar and the site is now shut down. CIRA is continuing to work with PayPal in an effort to shut down the fraudulent payment page.
All .CA Registrants should ignore these emails and not provide payment.
Last Friday the popular WordPress blog and resource center WPHub.com awarded us their Best Value for WordPress Hosting Award.
We’re extremely excited about and thankful for this nod of appreciation from one of the rising stars in the WordPress ecosphere. We are however aware that you may not be familiar with WPHub as they are the result of a recent merger of several different WordPress blogs/resources. Since they have been kind enough to highlight what makes GreenGeeks such a great service to their community and the WordPress community at large, we’d like to introduce you to WPHub and what they’re all about too.
